Thermaglide insulated roller door is
tailor made to your specification.

The door is cut to the size of your garage opening
and you have a choice of 13 colours.

Standard door and brickwork aperture dimensions:

Insulated roller doors are specified by the overguide width.  For doors fitted behind the brickwork, the overguide width will be the brick-to-brick opening size plus 140mm for door sizes up to 9sqm or plus 190mm for door sizes up to 13.5sqm.  For example, an aperture width of 2400mm will be ordered as overguide width 2540mm i.e. 2400mm plus 140mm.  The guide height will be the aperture height.

For doors fitted behind within the aperture, the overguide width will be the brick-to-brick opening size and the guide height will be the aperture height less 270mm.

Thermaglide insulated roller doors are made to measure up to 5200mm (17’) wide to 3000mm (98) high.  When ordering please quote the brick-to-brick opening size (quote the width before the height) and we will calculate the overguide size.  Please also quote the side clearance and we will make the correct size door for your garage opening.  Delivery time is approx 2 weeks.

Installation requirements - clearances required:

Fitting BEHIND the aperture

The minimum headroom clearance between the bottom of the lintel and the ceiling is 270mm for door sizes up to 9sqm and 300mm for door sizes up to 13.5sqm.  In cases of reduced headroom, the roll can be fixed lower, however there will be a corresponding reduction in drive-through height and it will be necessary to fit a fascia plate to cover and protect the axle assembly and give added security.

If you have less than 270mm headroom then the slim-line version of the Thermaglide, the Thermaglide 55, is the ideal solution.  Named after its 55mm lath depth and requiring only 205mm headroom, the Thermaglide 55 is equally suited to internal or external face fixing.  With all the features of the Thermaglide, Thermaglide 55 is designed to suit garages with restricted space at the top of the opening, most often found in flat roof garages.  The Thermaglide 55 is available in bright white, mocca brown and racing green for internal fit and/or woodgrain golden oak and woodgrain mahogany for internal fit only.  The Thermaglide 55 is available for openings up to 2438mm (8') wide by 2438mm (8') high.  If fitted externally, the Thermaglide 55 comes complete with a matching white or mocca brown canopy enclosure.

There must be 300mm backroom clearance (measure from the opening back towards the rear of the garage) to allow the door to be lifted into position and fitted behind the opening.  Check there are no beams or joists within this area.  If there are it may be possible to remove these to facilitate fitting.

Side clearance - 70mm each side for door sizes up to 9sqm and 95mm each side for door sizes up to 13.5sqm.  This clearance is required only if the guides are to be fully concealed.  A minimum of 40mm each side is required to give sufficient room for fixing but a portion of the guide tracks would then be visible.

Fitting WITHIN the aperture (between walls or between reveal)

Headroom, backroom and side clearances required are as above.  We can provide colour matched guides if fitting the door within the opening.  If the garage has a single head then the door may be fitted within the opening with the roll being fitted behind the single head.  If the door is going to hang down below the head then it will be necessary to fit a fascia plate to cover and protect the axle assembly and give added security.

These guidelines are provided so that you may assess if your garage is suitable for a roller door.  Prior to ordering we normally recommend that Tilt-A-Dor carries out a site survey to confirm the order size and suitability.  Please Contact Us if you would like to arrange a site survey.

Important further information on fitting:

  • Even walls are required on each side of the opening (to enable guides to be attached).

  • The insulated roller door may be fitted behind the opening or within the opening.  If you have an existing wooden frame this will usually be removed to leave brickwork exposed.

  • If you have a single head on your garage you may require an optional PVC finishing fascia.

  • A roller door is fitted so that it rolls down and meets your garage floor horizontally.  If your garage floor is uneven (and many are!) then there may be a gap at the bottom of the door.  It is virtually impossible to know if this is going to happen before the door is fitted but, if this happens, it may be remedied after fitting by fixing some self-levelling cement (you can buy this in most DIY stores) or by chipping away the floor so that the door rests in front of the floor.

Visit our showroom in Bangor where we will be pleased to show you our roller garage doors or Contact Us to arrange a site survey to ensure your garage is suitable for a roller garage door.
