A Tilt-A-Dor roller door is
tailor made to your specification.

The door is cut to the size of your garage opening
and you have a choice of 10 colours.

Standard door and brickwork aperture dimensions:

Our roller doors are specified by the brick-to-brick opening size and made to measure in 5mm increments from 900mm (3’) wide x 1220mm (4’) high to 4267mm (14’) wide to 3048mm (10’) high.  The actual door size will be slightly larger than the garage opening to allow a small overlap on each side.

For openings over 10' wide we normally recommend our Insulated roller doors or Sectional door range.

When ordering please quote the brick-to-brick opening size (quote the width before the height).  Please also quote the side clearance and we will make the correct size door for your garage opening.

Installation requirements - clearances required:

The minimum headroom clearance between the bottom of the lintel and the ceiling is 360mm (14") and this is necessary if the door roll is to be hidden from outside view.  In cases of reduced headroom, the roll can be fixed lower, however there will be a corresponding reduction in drive-through height and you may see the top of the roll from outside.

There must be 20" backroom clearance (measure from the opening back towards the rear of the garage) to allow the door to be lifted into position and fitted behind the opening.  Check there are no beams or joists within this area.  If there are it may be possible to remove these to facilitate fitting.

Side clearance required is 130mm for a manual door with standard 40mm aluminium guidesWe can supply special 25mm (1”) galvanised steel guides if side clearance is between 90mm and 130mm.  If you have less than 90mm side clearance it will be necessary to fit a wooden frame to create the required clearance to fit the door.  If the door is to be remote control then the distance between the edge of the door curtain and the inside of the bracket must be at least 40mm, however, for easier access it is recommended that at least 95mm is allowed (this is required on the automatic side only).

These guidelines are provided so that you may assess if your garage is suitable for a roller door.  Prior to ordering we normally recommend that Tilt-A-Dor carries out a site survey to confirm the order size and suitability.  Please Contact Us if you would like to arrange a site survey.

Important further information on fitting:

  • Even walls are required on each side of the opening (to enable guides to be attached).

  • A roller door is fitted behind the opening.  If you have an existing wooden frame this will usually be removed to leave brickwork exposed.

  • If you have a single head on your garage you may require optional PVC finishing fascia.

  • A roller door is fitted so that it rolls down and meets your garage floor horizontally.  If your garage floor is uneven (and many are!) then there may be a gap at the bottom of the door.  It is virtually impossible to know if this is going to happen before the door is fitted but, if this happens, it may be remedied after fitting by fixing some self-levelling cement (you can buy this in most DIY stores) or by chipping away the floor so that the door rests in front of the floor.

Please note that a roller garage door is not a sealed door.  If you require an insulated or draught proof door please see our Insulated Roller Door or Sectional door range.
