Choice of door lifting style

Up-and-over doors are available in either Trackless Canopy (standard) or Slideaway Retractable styles.

Should you wish to automate the door you will require the Slideaway Retractable model.

Slideaway Retractable Door
These are guided by horizontal tracks inside the garage and recede completely when fully opened.  This style of door is necessary if you want to automate the door.  It is also suitable if you have limited headroom; or if your garage is in an exposed location and you are concerned about wind catching the door; or if your front door is adjacent to the garage door and there is a risk of someone walking into the garage door when it is open.

Cardale's Slideaway single size up-and-over doors feature the unique MaxiLift cranked arm for increased drive-through width - great if getting into your garage is a tight squeeze.

Trackless Canopy Door
These operate in vertical tracks on the door side-frame, and when fully opened forms a canopy of about one-third of the door’s height above the opening.  There are no tracks along the ceiling in the garage.  We do not recommend automating Trackless Canopy doors.

(Note: some garage door companies may offer to automate a Trackless Canopy style door.  We do not recommend fitting automatics to Trackless Canopy doors because there is a "dead" point whenever the door is opened and/or closed that can sometimes cause the automatic opener to stop.  From experience we have found that automatics fitted to Trackless Canopy doors tend to cause problems over time.)
